Undercover Technician

by Ken
(Ga)

I once went undercover and looked for a carpet cleaning job with a local company. I had been a carpet dry cleaner for about 10 years at that time. Man, did I pick a good one! On my interview I was told that they were looking for sales people to train how to clean carpet as opposed to carpet cleaners to train to sell. They took a chance on me. Every morning we would all meet and get our work orders. With 5 crews, we all got 3-4 jobs and 80% of them got 1-2 re-do's every day. Meaning they had to go back and re do the job they did the day before because the customer was not happy. Crazy stuff! I never did have a re-do. One time I remember a guy who was rewarded for getting an extra $200 on his order for selling Scotch Guard. That's OK, but the problem was that he didn't have any Scotch Guard with him, so he just used plain water. Everyone just laughed. This is what's going on out there people. Not everyone is out to get you, but you gotta be careful. If you have someone you like, stay with them!
